In keeping with Cee’s Flower of the Day – More Orange, my orange flower is one that typically blooms in late summer, the marigold. I saw these at the Chicago Botanic Garden, but have seen marigolds around the neighborhood too.
I have planted marigolds to protect tomato plants from squirrels and rabbits; apparently these animals are repelled by the smell of marigolds. Anyway, it seems to work and the marigolds are pretty! They are annual flowers, though – they cannot survive the cold winters in Chicago, so have to be replanted every year.
