Lens-Artists #78: Special Spot Shots

One of my favorite spots to visit in the Chicago area is the Chicago Botanic Gardens. It’s nice to visit during different times of year when different plants and flowers are featured. And in December, there is Lightscape – a light show that takes over the gardens four nights a week during the holiday season. (Click on the link above to see my post about this show.)

In February or early March is the annual orchid show.

Besides orchids, there are other beautiful flowers and plants on display, such as this pitcher plant…

In May, I love to see the fields of poppies...

…and wander around to delight in other spring beauties.

In the summer, my friend Marcia and I head to the butterfly pavilion.

This monarch mistook Marcia’s flowered shawl for an actual flower and posed there for several seconds!

And of course, in July there is a lot more beauty that surrounds us as we stroll through the gardens.

During December’s Lightscape, there is not much to see in the way of flowering plants, but that’s OK because the light show is spectacular! Dress warmly!

  1. Ah, what a delight to be taken around this place! Thank you so much! No wonder it is a special spot for you – I would be there every day if I could. Thank you for the link to the light show as well.

  2. What a delightful place, Amoralegria! In all the times I’ve been in Chicago, I’ve never been there. What a mistake!! It looks absolutely beautiful. Now, I definitely will go.

  3. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. In our parallel universe, the Denver Botanic Gardens is one of our favorite places. We caught the tail-end of the Christmas lights display at the beginning of this month, and DBG is having an orchids display this winter, also.
