Dale and I were taking a walk just before sunset this evening around campus. We came across a woman I know, who was very excited to show us something she had found out about. She led us along the path next to West Lake, telling us it is a flower called “cardinal flower” which grows by itself (not in a group) near water. It is the only one growing there – it’s rather rare – and it was totally new to me. I doubt I would have spotted it had she not pointed it out.
