Roger’s Magical, Mystical Questions:
- Have you ever driven the wrong way on a one-way street? How did this come about?
Yes, but not intentionally, only because I didn’t see the “One Way” sign. I got off that street as quickly as possible!
- As a kid, did you ever decide to run away? Did you have a plan? Take a pet? Sandwiches?
No, I don’t think so. Maybe I did think about it when my brother was exceptionally obnoxious. But other than that, I had a contented home life.
- You suddenly found you have a hidden talent for playing a musical instrument. What musical instrument do you hope that accompanies your talent? Any particular song?
I have an electronic full-sized piano (88 keys) that I bought many years ago, thinking I would take it up again. About five years ago, I did take lessons, which lasted about two years. I improved a little bit. Then after I stopped taking lessons, I played on my own for close to a year. Then, I went on some trip somewhere and when I came back, I didn’t play for a long time. I’ve only played a few times since then and I sound awful – as bad as when I took it up again five years ago! But I still won’t give up my piano, because I keep hoping I’ll go back to it. So I guess I would like to be really good at playing the piano, which would give me the satisfaction and motivation to keep going.
- Do you accessorize with jewelry? There was an opal necklace (cursed) and Slytherin’s locket (also cursed) in the Potter story. Have you had any heirloom jewelry passed down through the generations? Is it more ‘keepsake’ or do you wear it on occasion? (Hopefully, yours was not cursed?)
I have no cursed jewelry nor is any horcrux hidden in my jewelry! My mother has given me a couple of pieces – a diamond ring and a pearl necklace. And I got another necklace from my grandmother which I wore at my first wedding and a few other times. I’ve worn the pearls too – the last time was our daughter’s wedding a year and a half ago. But I’ve never actually worn the diamond ring. I’m not sure what to do with it.
Melanie’s Ordinary Muggle Questions:
What ingredients go into YOUR favorite salad?
I love all kinds of salad, but last week I had a particularly delicious one, which included lettuce, tomatoes (to which I added more of my own freshly picked tomatoes), quinoa, lima beans, red beans, chopped egg, grated cheese, and chicken that had been marinated Peruvian style. The dressing was wonderful too, made with guacamole. What I like to do is go to a salad buffet with lots of choices and I will pile it high with the above ingredients as well as sweet peppers, spinach, broccoli, and whatever else strikes my fancy. Then I will add a dressing such as Greek dressing, blue cheese dressing, citrus or fruit based vinaigrette, and top it with bacon bits and crunchy seeds.
If you care to, share something that really irritates you.
People who use apostrophes on plural nouns, which has become highly prevalent these days. Other than that, Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, most Republicans, especially the do-nothing, block-everything-Democrats-want-to-do Republicans in Congress even if they know it isn’t moral or just, and right-wing Christians (who support Trump and are hypocrites because they don’t understand their own religious teachings).
What are your favorite ‘lounging around the house’ items of clothing? Now that a lot of people ‘lounge around the house’ waiting for the all clear in respect to Covid being shown the door, have those lounging items changed?
I wear pretty much the same things I have been wearing at home since I retired. I like hanging around in my bathrobe and slippers until I absolutely have to get dressed because I am going out of the house somewhere.
GRATITUDE (as always this is optional)
Please feel free to share something about Autumn (or Spring if you’re gearing up for that) that you especially enjoy!
I love to watch the seasons change in nature – baby animals become adults, August flowers wilt, and leaves start changing color on the trees. Autumn is the most beautiful season when we have really good color. The one thing I don’t like about it is that after autumn comes winter.
