SYW: Exercising & Carousels

I’ve been taking a break from my blog for the last couple of weeks. Now that I’m back, I’m getting in on the last days of Share Your World of Sept. 26!

1. What’s your favorite way to exercise?  (if you do or don’t.  Exercising one’s mind is a valid answer IMHO, because that’s my favorite).
I have a goal to get in much better physical shape by September of next year. Right now, my favorite is the Circuits class led by our fitness director, as well as walking, which has always been my favorite!

As for exercising my mind, I’ve been very worried lately about cognitive decline! I grasp for words I just said a few minutes before, reading words wrong, and general memory loss. So I’m exploring other options. I have heard that the best way to boost your brain power is to take on activities that are new to you, or that you left behind long ago. More recently, I downloaded Lumosity, a game site to help people with various skills. I only get the free one for now, so I’m limited in the games they provide, but I may get a subscription eventually. So far most of the games are challenging.

2. What’s more important to you – family or friends?
Family, although friends are important too!

3.  (a segue of sorts from last week’s SYW)..Have you ever voted for someone (in whatever venue – politics, contests, school elections) based solely on how they looked?

4.  (silly one)  How could carousels be spiced up so they are more exciting?
More horses! I love to ride the horses!

GRATITUDE SECTION  (as always optional)

Please feel free to share something you’ve enjoyed about this September.
On the news a couple of days ago, I heard that September 2021 has been the warmest on record! I know it’s about climate change and that many places are literally on fire, but here in the Midwest it has been pleasurable. I have been enjoying the warm weather!

I had to get a new phone because our contract expired and we had to get a new contract so they required that we buy new phones! I have found that close-up photos are much clearer with this phone camera (Galaxy S21)!

Alaska 2016: Benefit for cancer research

August 27, 2016

Today was our second and final “sea day.”  It was a day to prepare to leave the ship early the next morning.

At 10 am, we met many others in the Ocean Bar on Deck 3 of the Noordam for Holland America Line’s traditional “On Deck for a Cause.”  They do this event on every sailing, on the last sea day.  It costs $20 to register which gets you a wrist band and T-shirt.  Proceeds benefit several research organizations around the world.  Jude told us the history of it when we were all convened, wearing our T-shirts over or under another warmer shirt.

Jude told us nine laps = 3 miles and throw in one extra lap just to make sure, which was the same as on the Eurodam. The ships seem to be about the same size, certainly the same configuration.

I started out walking with Dale, but he left to go to the bathroom and I kept going.  So most of the way I walked alone.  After the 9th lap I was tired and stopped to get some pineapple and water, and the very last chocolate chip cookie.  I decided to wait for Dale to come around; he eventually appeared and we walked the 10th lap together.

Later that day, both of our Fitbits buzzed – the 4th time for me this week!
